Some Pre-Season Playoff Predictions

The NBA season is finally upon us!

I know nothing, but still took the time to write a bit about who I like to make the playoffs this season...

Imperfect

A few months back, the day after my beloved Kentucky Wildcats faltered in the Final Four and missed their chance to make history, I posted a little something on my Facebook page about my disappointment.  It was well received, so I am posting it here as well...

A few words for my fellow UK fans...

That one hurt.

I felt sick last night.  Mind was racing about the game as I tried to sleep.  Can't imagine what kind of night the players and coaches had.

Saddest part is, all the Kentucky haters, fair weather fans, and even some of those stereotypical (oh-so-vocal) irrational UK fanatics will only remember a talent rich squad that choked on the big stage. A crooked coach getting his comeuppance.

The team will soon be mostly forgotten and the perfection they fell short of will be another teams dream to chase.  But the true fans will remember the sacrifices those young men made to be part of something bigger than themselves.  Sacrificing individual acclaim in order to achieve a greater goal.
The haters will not miss any opportunity to remind us that that goal was left unachieved, but the way those kids played for each other is what we, as fans, should remember above all else.

That won't be easy.  Much like the teams in 2003, 2004, and 2010, it will be hard to remember anything but the disappointment felt as title hopes were washed away.

But that is college basketball, the beauty of the tournament.  It's why those years when we do break through are so special.  And as we tell ourselves with every season that ends too soon...

There's always next year.
